Hi! I'm John and I give grinds in English, History and Geography.
I am a Trinity Scholar. I am a third year student studying Law in Trinity College Dublin was a H1 student in all three subjects. I got 600 points in my Leaving Cert, the highest in my school and I received the Entrance Exhibition Award from Trinity for my Leaving Cert. I got 6 H1s in my Leaving Cert.

English

English is often seen as a tricky subject, but it can be approached from an almost mathematical standpoint. By doing certain things and following certain essay styles and plans, you will greatly increase your chances of a good grade. I would like to be able to review and mark your work every week of possible, so I can see where you are progressing and where you will need more work. There will be special focus on Paper 1 and the Comparative, as this is where students often fall down, but we will examine each part of the paper in turn and address common pitfalls.

History
I have always had an interest in History and won a nationwide essay writing competition in 2022, being published in Irish History Magazine( September/October 2022) and going to UCC to collect an award.

I believe that the RSR is a part of the exam that is quite time consuming but fascinating, and you should be well able to get decent marks in, not by "talent" but by hard work and a few redrafts.
I will help with the RSR, from picking the topic that interests you to the redrafts. This exam is all about the essays, learning what to put into a set question and what to omit as time is a killer in this exam - every student needs to learn how to paragraph and time their essays. Like English and Geography , I would like to correct an essay once a week in order to see your progress and where you need to improve. It is a skills based subject, and learning how to format a good essay is crucial.

Geography
This is an exam that does not change often, and is relatively easy to prepare for - with a lot of work. Its fascinating but there is a lot in the course. Like English and History, I would like to correct an essay once a week in order to see your progress and where you need to improve.

Thanks,
John
