Hi! I'm John and I give grinds in History Geography and Business
I am a Trinity Scholar. I am a third year student studying Law in Trinity College Dublin and was a H1 student in all three subjects. I got 600 points in my Leaving Cert, the highest in my school and I received the Entrance Exhibition Award from Trinity for my Leaving Cert. I got 6 H1s in my Leaving Cert.
History
I have always had an interest in History and won a nationwide essay writing competition in 2022, being published in Irish History Magazine( September/October 2022) and going to UCC to collect an award.
I believe that the RSR is a part of the exam that is quite time consuming but fascinating, and you should be well able to get decent marks in, not by "talent" but by hard work and a few redrafts.
I will help with the RSR, from picking the topic that interests you to the redrafts. This exam is all about the essays, learning what to put into a set question and what to omit as time is a killer in this exam - every student needs to learn how to paragraph and time their essays. Like English and Geography , I would like to correct an essay once a week in order to see your progress and where you need to improve. It is a skills based subject, and learning how to format a good essay is crucial.
Geography
This is an exam that does not change often, and is relatively easy to prepare for - with a lot of work. Its fascinating but there is a lot in the course. Like English and History, I would like to correct an essay once a week in order to see your progress and where you need to improve.
Business
Business is an easy subject...so people say. Then why doesn't everyone get a H1? Here, we will go through the course in a methodical way and work towards getting that H2 and H1.

- Jul 2026 Mia Dorgan Before doing these grinds with John, business was a subject I struggled with and disliked but thanks to John it became a subject I both did well in and thoroughly enjoyed. Johns excellent communication skills made the theory relevant and understandable and gave continuous real life examples . His teaching skills made these lessons engaging by encouraging me to state what I thought something meant and how I would answer a question and then narrow a topic down to its key points. His grinds were always incredibly structured and it was clear what we were going to do in each lesson and this helped especially approaching the mocks and the leaving cert itself. He focused on areas that would be personal to the student and tailors the lesson accordingly to each students strengths and weaknesses. His approach to teaching business made this subject one of my favourites and one I strived to do well in and in fact I quickly began to look forward to these weekly lessons due to Johns encouraging and positive personality. I would highly recommend John as your tutor and you would be very lucky to have him on your side!😁 Mia, 2026

- Jul 2026 Sophia Baudson John is a great history grinds teacher. He does a lot of additional reading to enhance essay qualities and is very quick to correct many essays. He was happy to work on whatever topics I needed and would have sample essays ready for me very quickly.
