Hello!
My name is Beatrice, I'm 21 years old, and I'm currently in my final year studying Environmental Biology at UCD. I come from Italy, and I have been living in Dublin since the start of my undergrad, almost 4 years ago.
I really enjoy having the chance to teach something I am passionate about, such as languages, to other people!
I completed a specialisation in foreign languages in secondary school, and even though I went for science in higher education, I still like to keep up with my passions, by learning new languages and practicing the ones I already know! This plays a big part in my life as I love travelling and I like experiencing life in different countries :)
Italian is my native language, and I would love to help students studying it at different levels. I have a solid grasp of the grammar of the language, but I would also like to complement the more technical parts of language learning with insights into Italian culture by using different media for learning, and practicing a lot through conversation.
I studied German in secondary school; I have kept it up in university thanks to elective modules, and it still plays an important part in my life. This summer I had the chance to complete a professional internship at the Technical University of Munich, where I spent a wonderful 3 months immersing myself in the German way of life and language!
I would like to let the students into this other side of language learning as I think it is highly motivating, by intergrating more day-to-day knowledge and a variety of different sources that can help improve comprehension. Starting from a solid understanding of the grammar, we can work our way through more refined concepts, revise specific vocabulary, and work on conversation and pronunciation. In addition, I love learning through the use of mixed media, such as videos, films, short stories, songs, and so on, and we can work our way with that if it will suit the student :)
I have experience as a tutor for students of a variety of levels, from elementary all the way to Leaving Cert students.I have given grinds in both English and Italian and consider myself to have a certain flexibility between the languages, which plays to my advantage ;)
I have a good understanding of the structure of the Leaving Certificate and would love to help you step by step to feel more confident in the use of the languages. I like to adapt my lessons to the needs and preferences of the students. The first lesson is a great way for us to get to know each other, understand what the goals of the lessons are, and figure out what learning methods work best for both of us! There is no one way to learn a language. I have found that it's a lot of trial and error until you find the way that works for you, and I would love to help you get there. Practice makes perfect and mistakes are always more than welcome :)
