GrindsWorld Tutor: Emma Humber

I have been teaching English & History to both Junior & Senior Cycle students of all levels & abilities for the past 6 years. I successfully help both the students in my classroom & my grinds students to reach their full potential in exams.

I volunteered in my free time at a creative writing school called Fighting Words where I gained experience with working with young people of all ages and realised my own potential to educate. In this position, I learned how to teach children and young people in the most successful way. I learned to break down the boundary of teacher and student and allow the student to fully understand the subject or task at hand. As well as this I have been a university tutor whilst an undergraduate. I gave advice on essay writing skills as well as putting together information in the simplest way possible. My approach to grinds is to allow the student to not only grasp the topic or subject they are struggling with but to learn to love it. I supply topic or subject packs similar to those given in grind schools but at a quarter of the price. As well as these packs for further revision and exercises, I give hour long classes explaining in depth the information necessary to pass exams as well as techniques for using that information in the most efficient way. This has proved successful, as my students from the previous academic year achieved between a H1 and a H3 in their exams.

I want to make these classes as fun and versatile as possible so interactive exercises are a huge part of my tutoring technique. My aim is to show the student that we are equals and that I am here to help them on their journey towards whatever they want to achieve following the exams. I firmly believe that all students have the ability to excel when supplied with the correct support, patience and guidance that I will supply through these classes.
