I will be providing online grinds only for the time being.
€40 per lesson for Junior Cert, €44 per lesson for Leaving Cert. Price includes one hour lesson and at least one hour of preparation time for each lesson.
Educational Background:
I have a BSc Joint Major in Statistics and Applied & Computational Mathematics from UCD (First Class Honours 2017).
Through my time there I also took several courses in mathematics education and took part in the Maths Sparks initiative in conjunction with UCD Access & Lifelong Learning, which was a programme that provided fun maths based workshops and sought to improve the perception of maths and stats among disadvantaged secondary school students in the Dublin area and beyond, and to improve their confidence in their abilities in the subject.
While studying for my undergraduate degree and in my graduate studies I worked for 5 years in UCD's Maths Support Center. This was a place for all students in UCD to come and get assistance with their maths and stats based courses. My time working there has given me experience in determining peoples' misunderstandings of maths concepts and the skillset to get across maths and stats principles in a meaningful and easily understandable way.
I have also given grinds on-and-off over the last decade or more and my teaching style has developed with my university experience.
My Teaching Philosophy:
While understanding of the material is a key goal of my teaching of course, I also wish to improve the student's confidence in their approaches to maths problems and improve their perceptions of maths and stats in general.
In time and if desired by the student I can also draw from my university courses to show (in a simplified manner) some of the more advanced concepts that are built upon the topics they are learning in school now, to assist in diffusing the stigma that "maths isn't useful" that can sometimes exist somewhat understandably within some students.
I can also (if desired) provide my experience and advice to those students who might be considering a university degree in an area which will require further studies of mathematics; such as science, business, engineering and many more.
