GrindsWorld Tutor: Karl Holmes

I am a recent graduate with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Galway. Over the past 5 years, I have been teaching Mathematics and Technology online to students of all levels across Ireland. With a strong background in engineering and a passion for teaching, I bring a unique perspective to my tutoring sessions. I have accumulated over 5 years of tutoring experience, working with more than 50 different students.

My tutoring approach emphasizes the practical application of mathematics in real-world situations, bridging the gap between classroom learning and everyday life. During our online sessions, which typically range from one to two hours, I utilize a digital whiteboard to explain concepts, delve into interesting aspects of mathematics, and encourage students to share their experiences and ask questions. I am dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of the subject matter, moving away from rote memorization and towards comprehension.

I have extensive experience teaching students at various levels and ages in secondary schools, with a focus on Junior Cert, 5th Year, and Leaving Cert students. Many of my long-term students have shown significant improvement in their academic performance, transitioning from struggling to achieving top scores.

Having faced the challenges of the Leaving Certificate myself, I understand the difficulties students encounter, particularly the emphasis on memorization over understanding. As a tutor, my goal is to demystify complex topics, guiding students through the material with clarity and patience.

My current tutoring rate is 40 euros per hour, with the option for reduced rates for group sessions upon request. I am committed to helping students build a strong foundation in mathematics and technology, ensuring their success in these subjects and beyond.
